Spotlight on Safety - Trends from NSC Safety Congress & Expo
BLOG ARTICLES
Last September, safety professionals worldwide gathered in Orlando, FL, for the NSC Safety Congress & Expo, where the latest industry advancements and ideas took center stage. Our team arrived with a clear goal in mind: to observe the trends that are reshaping our industry and ensure our PPE solutions are at the forefront of innovation and offer value in meeting the safety challenges of today and tomorrow.
Sustainable PPE Solutions
As sustainability becomes more important in the safety industry, companies are identifying ways to reduce environmental impact without compromising protection standards. From renewable materials to recyclable PPE, these advancements reflect a shift toward products that not only protect workers but also support corporate sustainability goals and initiatives. This creates a push for companies to adopt materials and methods that reduce waste and conserve resources.
At this year’s NSC Safety Congress & Expo, sustainability was a major theme, where attendees got an inside look at the eco-friendly solutions leading the way. Among these were our own BioSoft™ Earplugs, the world’s first sustainable ear plug solution. Made from 82% bio-based materials, BioSoft™ earplugs decompose by 76% within 180 days, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Traditional PU or PVC earplugs, however, remain unchanged. BioSoft™ delivers excellent noise-reducing performance and a lower impact on the environment, without sacrificing performance or comfort.
Increasing Workplace Well-being
Employee wellbeing is becoming a central focus in the safety industry, as companies increasingly recognize that a healthy workforce is safer and better equipped to maintain focus. Beyond traditional gear, the emphasis is now on solutions that promote workers' physical and mental health on the job. Innovations in hydration, nutrition and fatigue management highlight the role of proper hydration and energy levels in reducing accidents.
At the show, we launched our THORZT™ Freeze Shots, a cutting-edge blend of electrolytes designed for rapid hydration. With a formulation that includes potassium and magnesium to prevent and combat dehydration quickly in hot environments, THORZT™ Freeze Shots not only support worker wellness by reducing fatigue and improving comfort but also contributes to the industry’s shift toward enhancing overall job site performance through greater focus and efficiency.
Customized PPE Solutions for Women
The need for specialized safety gear has led to a significant trend in women’s PPE, emphasizing the importance of designing solutions tailored to the unique needs of female workers. As more women enter the safety industry, the demand for properly fitting and functional PPE has become increasingly evident due to the need for enhanced safety, the importance of comfort and mobility and the push for inclusivity in the workplace. This shift acknowledges that traditional gear often fails to meet the specific requirements of women.
As the demand for women’s PPE continues to grow, it’s clear that safety solutions must evolve to provide protection without losing functionality. Protective gear should be properly designed and sized to fit the wearer. Our Bisley® X-Airflow™ Line is made to provide quality and value, while also engineered specifically for women. Prioritizing breathability, mobility and fit, these garments ensure female workers can perform their tasks efficiently and comfortably, even in the hottest and most uncomfortable working environments.
Wrapping up our time at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo 2024, we’re certain that the future of safety lies in innovation and adaptability. Our commitment to addressing the diverse needs of today’s workforce is reflected in the design and functionality of our products.
